My Ragged Fringed Orchid(Habenaria lacera or Plantanthera lacera) is getting ready to bloom. It was originally rescued from a spot cleared to build a subdivison. I was collecting other wildflowers to save and spotted this guy...may not have been totally legal, but bulldozing them was so I stand by my decision. It grows very easily and comes up every year growing along with my Cyps, ferns, hostas, and other woodland type of plants. It is not them most spectacular plant and most would never have noticed it...but I make room for it since it is a native and not one you see everyday.

I will edit this original message to add the future pics so you don't have to scroll down for them when it opens.

Jon, give me a call the next time you go exploring, you can teach me about collecting wild flowers and maybe I can show you how to collect fish.

Sounds good Lowell! I haven't heard about any building projects yet, but if you would like to go hiking where some non-ladyslipper orchids grow let me know. I usually go orchid hunting before fishing as I'm waiting for the sun to go down for catfish. It should be around blooming season for a few species that bloom in early summer. I usually do some pollinating and photographing at Cowan Lake and you are more than welcome to join me. Let me know when you are free as I don't have any work for a while and my schedule is open except for mornings(I am a night owl, obviously).
