View Full Version : Photos - how come.........?
Miss Kovachii June 26th, 2007, 01:21 AM Some photos come up and display nicely in the post, and others I just have a square with an X in it, and I get a page not found when I click on it? i.e. NO PHOTO. Am I missing a chunk of software or something?

budsbud June 26th, 2007, 02:23 AM Geeze, Mindy, I'm not sure. That usually happens when one deletes a photo after posting it. Maybe, someone else will be able to answer the question.
Paphraguy June 26th, 2007, 09:00 AM Hi Mindy,
Ralph is right. Sometimes people remove photos to make more room or for whatever reasons and if you're logging in on SOF from work or school, they usually block sites like Photobucket where some of the photos are stored.
Nynaeve June 26th, 2007, 11:13 AM When people use a website to store photos like Photobucket, Imageshack, Flickr, or any other...what they sometimes don't realize is if they move or delete a photo on that website, it invalidates the links posted elsewhere (like SOF). Sometimes people are cleaning out old photos to make room for new ones and forget they have posted them in other places. So it's not you Mindy!
budsbud June 26th, 2007, 11:18 AM That's right! And when people try to rearrage their photos--organize into new albums, change or add titles, etc., it alters the link and unless they repost, that little red "x" is a result!
But is that happening to you? Are your posted pics turning into "x's"?
Paphraguy June 26th, 2007, 11:29 AM That is why I prefer to use Imageshack because of their unlimited space for free!
Paphy57 June 26th, 2007, 08:47 PM That's why I select my pictures from the photo album, and so I literally host my own photos.
Miss Kovachii June 26th, 2007, 10:04 PM But, then, by my logic (!!!???!!!) if somebody moves a photo so I can't see it, none of the rest of you can either - true?
So next time it happens I'll post the "post" here and you guys can test it to see if that's my problem? it makes sense to me based on the intermittent nature of the thing.
Mindy
John D June 26th, 2007, 10:16 PM Yes Mindy it is not just you. The link is like directions to a certain spot. ie file location or folder. If the file is moved somewhere else in most software the directions don't change so you get the red X. there is nothing to find.
Miss Kovachii June 26th, 2007, 10:35 PM Or had this topic run its course before I showed up?
I'll just have to suffer (sigh)
