Thought I'd post this, since the season is coming up and I know one of our members has a particular interest in Native North American slippers. Not a great photo, but you can see what we have growing on the land behind my house.

Very pretty! Of all our native Cyps, I love the larger yellow ladyslippers. They remind me of phils and roebs!

Peter - I agree, they are my favorites also, I missed their blooming by about a week at Garden in the Woods last year, darn it! Hard for me to get there when they are in bloom because of when the museum opens for the year. Darn work, getting in the way of slippers!

Eric, yes, I think it is aucale, but I get the Cyps a bit mixed up I'm afraid. For some reason, I always think it is reginae, and get confused.

Heather, how large is the slipper/pouch on the acaule? That is the cyp I'm used to seeing most around here.

Oh gosh, I'm not sure! I would have to guess that the natural spread (not to sound pretentious or anything) is about 3" and the pouch is maybe an inch and a half to two inches. I can give you a more accurate answer in May! ;)
