View Full Version : Lipless reginae
Shady Character June 7th, 2007, 09:20 AM I was interested to see that one of my Cyp reginae had two buds on a stem. the second one just opened and...there's no lip! I've seen this before in other slippers but I just thought i'd share it here. Bigtime storms coming this afternoon so I wanted to get pics of things before they are washed away. In other news, one of my other reginae still hasn't popped the bud above the foliage yet despite this one being in bloom for several days now. Is such a range of bloom times in essentially the same location normal?

I'd say that some variation is normal, but usually flowers on the same plant should all open within a few days of each other. Sounds like your second bud is delayed due to some environmental factor.
Lipless slippers are interesting, but what I'd like to see is a peloric reginae with three lips!

fundulopanchax June 7th, 2007, 09:37 PM I've seen some that are pretty deformed, but certainly not one like that! Did the flowers on this plant perform normally last year?

I find this very strange.
What could cause such a deformity?

Shady Character June 8th, 2007, 08:04 AM Ron, it flowered normally and beautifully last year. Another stem on the same plant is also blooming normally.
Teresa, I'm NOT the Ugly Stepsister! :p If anything I'm Snow White ;)
