But aren't they small?
I am interested in getting pure kovachii 'Tupac Amaru'
I also like kovachii 'goliath'.
How much bigger is goliath than Tupac Amaru?

Are you sure? Experienced growers are losing k left & right. I have a couple of hybrids, which aren't presenting a problem. I figure it's going to be at least a few years before I'd try the species.

I don't know how the experience growers fare (I assume they should be doing not too bad, or at least not as bad I )
But as an inexperience grower of slippers, I would buy bigger plants if I have to do it again.:fcrossed: And you should definitely try the pk hybrids first.

A close friend of mine has some pk species and hybrids, and they don't seem to be all that tough to grow. Of course, it could be an expensive mistake, but from what I've seen, these seedlings are putting out roots like crazy, and new leaves too. This friend isn't much above a typical hobbyist grower, and has them under lights right now. The hybrids are supposed to be growing a little faster I think, but when I look at them, I just see pretty little seedlings ;)

So, is 'Tupac Amaru' a more special plant?

It is a more red color than purple. Check out OL's website, and check out the pk page.

I have 3 hybrids and 2 species - Goliath x Jewels - these were very tiny seedlings - 3" ls or so when I got them and I was a tad nervous. I just grow on windowsills - no greenhouse, but my other phrags do just fine and bloom.

The seedlings were all healthy looking little guys, and they are all doing well so far - all have a fat new root coming on, and new growth that looks good. The species are growing quite a bit more slowly than the hybrids, but everybody (fingers crossed) looks good. I figure by the end of the summer, assuming all goes well, they'll be big enough I won't worry about them so much.

The web site decribes their condition as having a daily drenching rain, so I
force water them daily - we have really good tap here in Portland, so maybe that's what's keeping them happy.

Just add water -

I too have a seedling kovachii that I bought on ebay last year from a german grower. When it arrived it was very small - about 2 -3 inches across.
It cannot have been very long out of flask. It had no 'proper' roots.
It grows in amongst my paphs on an east facing windowsill and seems quite happy. No special conditions. Its in a tray on a bed of hortag to increase humidity.I try to keep it out of direct sun.
Its put on 2 new much larger leaves and new roots and looks happy. Its in a small 2 inch pot in seedling bark compost. I'm going to water it a bit more often after reading these posts - it was previously watered every 5-7 days. I try to water it with a mix of rain water and our local hard tap water and fertilize it occasionally, when I remember.
It doesn't get any extremes of temperature - I think most of the problems that have occurred have been with high temps.
They don't seem to be difficult and if you can succeed with paphs then these seen fairly easy,
Regards,
David

It is a more red color than purple. Check out OL's website, and check out the pk page. It is my understanding that the color of all are fairly close but lighting and exposure has made a big difference in the color appearance in these pics
