I live on wooded acres and these are my favorite spring flowers on my property. I have three different species in my woods.

Trillium grandiflora, the Large-flowered trillium

Peter are there any other species in your area? I have searched high and low for nodding trillium

That hurts Ron! Talk about home sickness...your splendid shots bring me back to the mountains of the deep south Appalachians. There area few species here in Japan (none local though), but they are mostly quite small and boring. The North American species definitely are the kings of the Trillium world. Thanks.

I don't know much about Trilliums but I see mostly the white ones. I was told that it was illegal to dig them up here in Maine.

Wow, Ron,

giant native Masdevalias in our own native forest. Cool:p

Peter,

Technically, if you dig a tunnel and take the plants from below (groundhog fashion) then you are not violate any law , since you are not DIGGING UP any plant, no sireeee.:innocent:

I rescued a root of one when they redid the road past my house and it looks like I have five growth this year with flowers in my gargen. They are on the east side of my house up against the foundation so are in the shade most of the time. I ended up with a Jack in the Pulpet also but so far there is no sign of it yet. They come up a little later in the spring though.

You got it Nick, When the judge says:
"What do you say to the charge of digging up the Trilliums'
Your lawyer will solemnly asks for a dismissal for the reason that you never dig up any plants. Voila`.
I think I watch too many lawyer scenes on TV.:p

Very nice! Here in Northwestern CT the trilliums are just about to bloom - this weekend or early next week. They are very late this year. We have these three species with erectum accounting for about 75% of all that we see around here, grandiflorum is next at about 15 %, then cernuum (the nodding trillum) at nearly 10%, and finally a few areas with undulatum. All of them form nice colonies around here except undulatum, which I only see as sparse specimens.

Hi Ron! Popped over from your link on the other thread. Don't you just love these things? The flowers are so simple but there's something about them, maybe the radial symmetry? that just makes them so attractive. Plus, they mean SPRING and after months of waiting they're a welcome sight. Did you plant that undulatum or is it naturally-occurring?
