papheteer May 12th, 2007, 12:22 AM This is my HCM that bloomed last month but started to wilt in a few days. I thought it was award quality, partly wishful thinking. It's NS is 10.1cm. Tell me what u guys think.

budsbud May 12th, 2007, 01:30 AM I don't know anything about judging HCM but, man, that is so, so stunning! OMG!!!!
Philippe May 12th, 2007, 01:54 AM very beautiful !
goldenrose May 12th, 2007, 09:28 AM Very Nice!!!
Hien May 12th, 2007, 10:27 AM It is not droopey as many I've seen , so maybe it is a better form
Paphraguy May 12th, 2007, 10:39 AM It looks great to me, nice size petals with great shape and colors.

:iagree: ...and it is as flat as a pancake!!
Paphy57 May 12th, 2007, 10:23 PM I couldn't say anything bad about it!
Jorch May 12th, 2007, 11:03 PM I think it has great even colors, nice and flat flower shape. The only draw back is that the petals are not exactly symmetrical.
Maybe a HCC or AM? I don't know, I am not a judge. But I LOVE that flower!! :woohoo:
papheteer May 13th, 2007, 01:25 AM there's one bad thing about it. After just 2 days of being open, it started having brown spots. The flower wilted within a week. So sad.
e-spice May 13th, 2007, 03:10 AM I think it is great. I like the look of the flowers of Ho Chi Minh but I can't stand the fact that they last about ten days!

Grandma MC May 13th, 2007, 07:18 AM Beautiful!!!! Mine bloomed out rather floppy. Is it possible that the next flowering will be better shape? Mine had one floppy 'ear' but I'm hoping for two 'ears' alike next time.

With a name like that it is lucky that it lasts that long (just kidding).
I think both parents do not last long either, I am not sure about Vietnamense, but my delenatiis barely reach 2 weeks when the petals start the browning process (wonder if it is because of first bloom on weak plants or it is normal).
Paphy57 May 13th, 2007, 10:12 AM I wonder what a ho chi minh x armeniacum would look like?
Hien May 13th, 2007, 10:17 AM I wonder what a ho chi minh x armeniacum would look like?
I think it would look like an ugly & nasty armenian communist.
Sorry my weird sense of humour again.
actually you maybe on to something, it maybe a very nice orange paph (never seen it before)

This is an immaculate flower, very even color. The right petal may be mishapen, or this may be an artifact of the photograph. The flower appears very sturdy, and is well shaped overall, without the obvious floppiness and lack of significant substance seen in most individuals of this cross.
Which brings me to the point about taking photos from the side.
It is difficult to judge flatness solely from an image taken from the front. Subtle cupping and leaning of the dorsal can be missed when a flower is only viewed from the front. This flower is not "flat as a pancake," the dorsal leans forward. Though this may be unavoidable in this cross.
Unfortunately, I don't have the most recent update to OrchidWiz, so don't have any measurements for HCM or vietnamense. At 10.1 cm, this bests the average awarded delenatii by 1.5 cm. I would likely score this plant if it was big enough and if the right petal was not as uneven as the photo suggests.
As far as the cross of HCM and armeniacum, delenatii suppresses color, at least to two generations. This cross would probably look very similar to Armeni White.
rdlsreno May 14th, 2007, 01:19 AM That is nice! It is flatter than the one I have.
I can get an AM.:woohoo:

PaphGuy November 11th, 2007, 10:56 AM Shape wise, it has a great shape and also the color. But I doubt that the color is real, a little bit too saturated. Did you saturate the color? If the color is true, you have AM flower.
goldenrose November 11th, 2007, 12:13 PM Interesting comment Ron makes about the color. Go back look at the 2 pics & the color of the 2 pics is slightly different, as is the background. Could this be due to natural lighting? a cloud passed by? were the pics taken at the same time of day? ....... which would lead us to - which is more accurate?
Swamprad November 12th, 2007, 04:33 AM That is a beautiful flower. I have a HCM that could spike any time. Seeing yours has got me really excited!
