I was watering today and noticed some Columbine! I had a landscaper pull out all the plants except for the coleus in the bed but I guess he missed this guy. I'm glad because I missed them!

That's fun Ralph. We are "reforesting" our yard in TN. We periodically have things pop up by themselve like the native petunias and passion flower (actually that one is a plague now). We have a native columbine here which has red flowers that are not as big as the cultivar in your picture. We planted a few of those a ways back, and they have spread extensively.

i don't think the landscaper missed it. my experience with columbine is that if you don't take off the seedpods, you'll get those suckers all over. found some hundreds of feet from the original location....

I like the blue kind. I have never seen the yellow or the red kind before.

Thanks, guys!!!

I did have some blue ones and red ones...they all turned yellow though.

Do they need something like aluminum sulfide to stay blue...is that what one uses for hydrengeas?

the flower color is genetic. as far as i know, it won't change with the soil pH

I've been wanting to try turning a white poinsettia blue with aluminum sulfate.
