Those are great photos! Are you the AOS photographer for your region? I'm lucky if I can get the stinkin' pics in focus with my camera.

I want the last vini with charlesworthii as the parent, could you get that for me....

Ty,

Yes, I am the photographer for my region.

What kind of camera do you use? If you use point and shoot, it will be difficult to focus, because you cannot control the focus. These days, the DSLR camera is not as expensive as several years ago. Either Nikon D40X or Canon will give great picture.

The vini x charlesworthii was a show stopper yersterday.

Robert,

Excellent pictures! It is nice to know another AOS photographer who likes Paphs. I am also an AOS photographer in the newly formed judging center in Sacramento California Sierra Nevada.

Great Job!!!

Nicest Promenaea I've ever seen I think......love the Phal on the first page and the Paph as well.

The Sarc is very nice in colour but I have strong doubts that it would have been awarded in Australia but I can understand it would be over there.

Your photography is amazing......can I ask what the camera is that you use???

Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing many more photos.

Darren,

Thank you for the nice word!!

The camera is an old Nikon D70. The requirement of AOS is to take picture at least with a 6 mega pixel camera. I really want to get a Nikon D200, but I cannot justify spending money for just a hobby. If I were still in Southern Calif, I will get paid for $10 per plant. Not bad so that I can invest on D200. If I take 140 plants, I get my money back. Here in Chicago and most of other places in the States, the photograpers take picture for free.

If you do not want to spend too much money, I think Nikon D40X will be sufficient.

Regarding the sarchocilus, I agree with you. I was shocked when that plant got an award. It shows that the judges did not know the standard of an award quality sarchocilus. In addition, the flowers have so many bruishes. Bottom line, it is very embarrassing...

I had no idea that Promenaea would get that large. I bought 4 plants in January in 2" pots. They bloom even on this tiny size plants, but I have found that they are water hogs. I have a Linelight 'Gold' by stapeliodes in bloom now Am I am surprised on how long the bloom is lasting on this one.

I have been able to bloom 3 out of 4 plants even tho they are so tiny.

For that particular kolopakingii, I just used whatever light available. Therefore, the left side is darker. It was not an official AOS picture, therefore, I did not spend time to make the picture looks good.

Hi Ron,

A belated welcome to our Forum! I must have been asleep when you first posted in April...... For those of you who don't know, Ron is not only our AOS Photographer for the Chicago Center, he is also among our most capable accredited AOS judges. I look forward to his participation in our judging and exhibition discussions.

Best Regards,

Tom,

Wow! thanks for the good word!.
I also always enjoy judging with you, for you have excellent eyes for orchids. Unfortunately, not everybody are blessed with this gift. People can study about orchids day and night, but good taste in orchid is a gift.
