Ok, now, I know Rick and Peter are going to laugh at me no matter what, but that's okay, I'm a hyena, I like laughter, and I'm trying to be more couragous lately....I've taken all sorts of leaps lately - watering w/ rainwater, having a plant judged, pollination, and now I'm going to try a compot!

So forgive the next silly question, if you please.

Pine pollen is covering everything with a fine layer of dust. The plants and the rainwater are covered also. I've been leaving the windows open in the growing space because it is so muggy here, it ups my humidity considerably. Is there any reason I should be concerned about all the pollen? Could it cause any detriments to the plants?

Thanks!

Remember there are no silly questions, only silly people.(had to say it of course)

I wouldn't think it would hurt anything, just unsightly, but it wipes off leaves easily and can be skimmed off the surface of the water with a towel. The only negative would be if you were allergic to it...in which case you are in the wrong state.

Thanks Jon, that's what I figured, but thought I would ask.
Never hurts to ask.

I am allergic, but anything for the plants....

I wouldn't expect it to cause a problem. In the real world all the other plants (including local cyps) are getting covered too, and are not having problems as far as we can tell.

But in enclosed artificial environments things could happen I suppose??

I wouldn't worry, just try to keep things as clean as possible.

I think that should have been Hahaha---CHOOO!
:D

At any rate, thanks. Tomorrow I clean my trays and check plants and clean the area in general, so I'll try to wipe clean as many leaves as I can. It is a choice - good humid air and pollen? Or closed environment w/ A/C. I think the plants could use the humidity more. If it is a bit extra work for me, so be it.

I happon to live next to a pine grove and spring is a miserable time for me! I am alergic to the stuff, there is so much of the stuff that it coats everything outside in a yellow layer. I grow a lot of orchids outside and it almost seems to germinate on the leaves where it sticks making a whitish knot. I dont know if it hurts anything except me but I wash it off as best I can but it seems to stick to the leaves. If there is something good to remove it with I would like to know.

I just wiped it off with a damp towel. What a mess! Now it is cold, so the house is shut up again. Hopefully that will be the end of it, but who knows.
