hey.

I have a primulinum blooming right now, and I would love to try and make the Gold dollar hybrid, but I dont know anyone who has a armeniacum...

So I'm looking for some pollen..

I live in Denmark (Europe) and as far as I know, its okay to send pollen without cites-papers...

hope to hear from someone...

Best regards,
Kenneth

The problem is that this isn't the season yet for Paph armeniacum. I'm sure someone in Europe could easily send you pollen when they start blooming. Look for late summer to autumn.

I agree with what Bill said!

Actually, I have found that armeniacum blooms for about 6 months starting in November (at least in my spare bedroom). I have an armeniacum with three flowers still open. I've never harvested pollen. If you tell me how, I can send you some. A picture of my armeniacum is posted on this forum a few weeks ago. I don't know how to link to the thread, but if you search under my screen name you should find it.

Please let me know.

Yes. Thanks Paul!

I figure that if Kenneth doesn't like the form he may not want the pollen.

I asked because I saw JPMC's picture of his armeniacum, not that long ago, and thought that someone might still have a blooming plant...

Yes. Thanks Paul!

I figure that if Kenneth doesn't like the form he may not want the pollen.

Hehe, what?!? you must be crazy, I think the form is just what I am looking for!!!

Sorry for not answering the thread, we have had some national holidays in Denmark, so I've been with my family... (discovering terrestrial orchids in the family woods :D)

I found an old thread in here, they talk a bit about harvesting pollen...
http://slipperorchidforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37&highlight=harvesting+pollen

This is what is being said:
There are lots of ways. In general they all end up in the fridge (not frozen). Some people store in pill capsules, some folded in a sheet of alluminum foil, and sometimes folded in plain paper or wax paper. I tried storing some in taped up paper towels. They got too dried out and crumbly after a few months. I'm trying the pill capsules now. I've recieved some nice little packets that cut small square windows out of a piece of cardboard. It will look kinda like a 35mm slide, with no film in the center. A small piece of foil or waxpaper is taped on each side of the cardboard "frame" and the pollen are sandwiched between the foil or wax paper

Harvesting is straight forward. Just take a toothpick and pry the pollinia off the anther horn. Paph pollinia are fairly sticky and should stick to the toothpick fairly well, without falling off into the pouch. Phrag pollen is often less sticky and more brittle. So it is harder to deal with.

Most pollen gets sent around in regular prioity mail, in regular envelopes. Often not in winter when its freezing at both addresses. However you have it stored, just label it and tape it to some cardboard to reduce the crush factor , and take it to the post office

I would really appreciate some pollen.. When I saw a picture of that cross, I just knew, "I need that one!"

I will write you a PM tomorrow, JPMC, maybe we can figure something out...

Thanks for all your replies,
kenneth

Does it mean it made seeds?

I should think so. Wether or not they will germinate.. That I dont know.. :)

That's great news!

The capsule certainly looks like it's going to produce seeds.
