yesterday i came home from work and my orchid/frog room was 94.1 degrees! :jawdrop:
most of my collection are paphs my question is what is the highest temp that paphs can withstand? also there is a fan circulating the air.

I'd worry more about the frogs...

Paphs can withstand pretty high temperatures if they have sufficient water at the roots and they aren't in overly bright light.

I don't know what your setup is. If you are growing exclusively under lights, consider running the lights at night instead of the day. If you are getting a lot of light from the outside, you may need to consider putting up a little shade for the hottest months. Those are the cheapest options...

Yep, like Rob said, your Paphs should be fine as long as there is enough humidity and air flow provided at all times. Remember, Paphs are tropical creatures.

Dracualas are tropical plants too, but will melt in the 90's. I'd also be more concerned about your frogs than the paphs though.

There is allot of geographical variation from where paphs come from, but I've got a pretty mixed collection, and have spots in my greenhouse where I've recorded highs of 100! I don't think low 90's would be much of a problem for most stuff, but I try to stay under 90 in most of my growing area. Air flow and humidity are very important at the higher temps.

I had a couple plants in my front window suffer in February and March (yes, truly - that's when I get my highest light so far in my front window. I think the sun is just so much lower in the sky, I get 6-8 hrs of sunlight, couple that w/ snow on the ground...) I was away in Feb. and the person watering did not water thoroughly enough, so I think they were too dry. I clocked some days in the high 90's in March. Ended up drawing the blinds partway when it was a very very sunny bright day.

Things have greened back up for me since starting to use MSU fertilizer a couple months ago.

Turn on the air conditioning. Or do you Yanks not believe in using or having one of those. :poke: I will usually vent my grow room (wide open at night, partial during the day) We also warm our house to about 85 during the day, and 75 at night! Keep air moving, maybe the door open? something to let the warmer air escape.

Yep, Draculas/Masdies are tropical plants but they come from the cooler regions. I actually saw some growing in the wild in South America years ago and they were beautiful!

Tadd, yes we do have air conditioners here and I can't live without one. I'm from South Florida and I just can't stand all that heat, thank goodness for air conditioners!

I also have central air, but didn't want it on in March!
I have a vent under the table the plants are on, it stays closed, but cool air escapes, just doesn't blow so directly. I open the windows (wide when it is nice and humid like this - good for the plants, I hate it, but whatever the plants want, they get! A/C is set to come on at 82° and we go down to about 72° at night.

Watch your humidity when you run air conditioning, it can really dry things out.

The humidifiers in my pleuro case run double duty when we crank up the AC at my home.

paphs can tolerate 90 if and only if the light is curtailed so they don't burn, and you provide LOTS of air movement.

over this last heat spell, even my basement hit 80 degrees, but the humidity was also over 80. I don't run the a/c much.....

In the summer, all my slippers are out in the sunroom and the temps reach 90+ and they love it! I do provide lots of air movements at all times.
