Since around 2001, I had the idea that I could grow cyps from seedling. Not a chance. Every seedling I have purchased or have been given has died.

Except for this one. Miraculously it has survived and flowered this week. A major accomplishment for me. I purchased this in Fall, 2001 from Werner Frosch and I recorded it as a fasciolatum x rebunense cross (Cyp 'Jimmy') but that's not what it is. So, we all can figure out what it is! I have attached a photo of it now, and how it first popped up in 2002! (Its 3 siblings also bought the farm)

Hi Paul,
well done for succeeding with this plant. I've also killed a few seedlings myself.
As for naming the hybrid, it obviously has some macranthos genes floating around.
I'm not sure it has any fasciolatum genes - there are no toothed edges to the lip.
Can you give an idea of size?
The hybrid it most resembles is Michael, but your flower may be too big for that,
Regards,
David

Congrats Paul on flowering your baby. Good question about the parents - not likely to be Jimmy, but possible if the rebunense parent harbored colored flower genes. The thought I had looking at it was how much it resembles x ventricosum. I'd guess that a crossing of a macranthos with some calceolus-like flower is in order, probably either calceolus itself or segawai or henryi. Very pretty flower, BTW.

Tom

I decided it's Kentuckiense x Speciosum. The big opening of the pouch and cream color is a dead Kentuckiense give away. The Sepals shape are dark burgundy color scream speciosum.

Over the past few days, the pouch has turned from light yellow to a very glamorous bone white! Even MORE gorgeous!
