Oh, excellent, looking forward to it!
I would guess giganitifolium if you actually have access to one, or if not that, kolopakingii, of course. :D Either way, should be exciting!
Oh and congrats on your Transvaal!
TADD June 8th, 2005, 07:13 AM barbigerum x roth sounds interesting Ron good luck! OH the largest. Good luck with the Transvaal! Neat flowers they are!

Ron-NY June 8th, 2005, 08:15 AM Heather, gigantifolium it is. It is a very cool looking flower. This plant came in with a shipement from Europe a couple of years ago. There were a series of plants that were non tagged in a box of species. To our surprise this one bloomed and it was gigantifolium. There is another plant spiking that we are not sure what it is but the inflourescent is as thick as my pointer finger and and pubescent also. Can't wait to see what that is!!
nyorchids June 8th, 2005, 08:23 AM that should be an excellent cross!!! keep us posted

Paphgirl June 8th, 2005, 12:20 PM Oh, tres cool!! Lucky you guys, do post pics!
fred June 8th, 2005, 06:09 PM I also Have a Transval that dosen't want to bloom . I was speaking with a Paph grower and He said he had a few customers that had trouble with them even brought them back after a few years Then He bloomed them with no trouble. Plants grow fine just no spikes. Ray.
Ron-NY June 8th, 2005, 07:05 PM Ray, there have been some trouble blooming older crosses but the more recent crosses bloom fine!! How much light are you giving it? roth primaries can take fairly high light and frequent fertilization during growth. Slowly raise your light level. How big is your plant? Also, don't overpot. These bigger Paphs people have a tendency to overpot, due to the large leaves but pot to root size not leaf size.
fred June 8th, 2005, 07:18 PM Hi Ron , I have four new growths well thier not new anymore The plant is growing good itis in a six in. pot and takes up the whole pot but as you stated my roots could be better I repotted about two months ago. I am giving it all the light I can without putting it under a grow light. Maybe I should put it outside for the warmer weather and make sure it's protected from the elements. I have had no trouble blooming other Paphs. Magic just came into bud. Paph Billy Cardillino is in spike just to name a few. Glen Is comming down to our Society meeting this Sat. Does he have any Multi floral's in spike or bud . That I could ask him to put my name on? I called yesterday but just got the machine. Any long petaled Paphs in spike that you know of? You should take the ride with him. Supposed to be a heat wave this weekend here. Hope he brings some interesting plants. Ray

Argh - stop mentioning Saturday - I am torn between NH and RI - Paphs vs. Angraecum...well....what do you think, plus, Glen's a sweetheart. So, directions or location please so I can look up who is closer? Or more important. Thanks Fred!!!
fred June 8th, 2005, 07:31 PM Hello Heather , If you look at Our Web Site there should be directions there . It will be the ones for Spring Hill Suites. We also have meetings at another location. Ocean State Orchid Society Is our Web Site. Google should put you there. Ray
Jon in SW Ohio June 8th, 2005, 07:36 PM Well I'm definately jealous!! I am still waiting on gigantifolium seedlings...let alone flowers. I hope you save the pollen and maybe cross it with roth and sanderianum to name a few(and itself of course).
As for a paph with a finger thick, pubescent spike...I would have to guess parishii. Marilyn had one at the Louisville show and its spikes were easily this large. I was amazed since mine has never been that thick.
Congratulations again,
Jon

Thank you Ray, I'll check it out. I couldn't recall which society you were with. RI has a couple I think.
Ron-NY June 8th, 2005, 08:37 PM Ray wish I could make it but my weekend is booked with the kids activities aqnd I have to get the rest of the veggie garden in. I will be stopping at the greenhouse tomorrow and take a look what might be in bud. He just recently got in Mexipediums and some of those are in spike.
Also, most roth primaries can take higher light than most Paphs and it is my experience with Transvaal that it takes a couple of years for a growth to mature and bloom.
Jon, wish the plant was mine! Glen will self it and cross it with one of his roths and I will cross it with mine. Hopefully, he will find a few other things worth crossing it with.
dustyatticstuff June 8th, 2005, 11:32 PM Heather,

Paphgirl June 9th, 2005, 06:29 AM Heather,

The NHOS meeting is in Bedford and Tom Nasser is speaking on Angraecums.
TADD June 9th, 2005, 08:06 AM His talk is on Angraecums? I did not know that! All I know is that he is a bulbo afficionado. That could be cool! But Phrags......mmmmmmm..... :poke:
