I don't know which section should I post in.. but I'm just so upset about my parviflorum new growth. Yesterday it was fine, with about 1.5 inches poking out of the garden. I guarded the precious growth with slug killer and layers and layers of egg shells a few weeks ago to prevent anything from going near it and I THOUGHT it was working as the growth remains untouched day after day! This afternoon when I come home from work, all that was left was a stump. :( If I ever catch that bugger.. I'll NOT be nice to it!

Now, I feel much better.. and will start looking into replacement plant AND pot culture! :fcrossed:

Boy can I ever relate to what you are going through. I had two C. japonicum buds chomped on and one formosanum. They all were carrying flower buds. I won't tell you the things I said upon seeing the plants. I would be banned forever from this forum!

How do you know it is the slug. It could have been a bird, squirrel or wild rabbit.
I've seen bird picking at my precious flower seedlings before (the bird even ignored all the grass & larger plants near by.

I just pulled two fat caterpillars off my rosebuds this morning. WHY do they go straight for the buds???? And this is after I applied a systemic pesticide! They will probably croak later but my poor buds are still ruined. SO sorry about your plant. :mean:

That is one of the disadvantages of growing outdoors. You should get some Praying Mantises to keep pests under control.

Thanks guys! I feel much better. Although I think it looks great blooming in my garden for the past 2 years, I think I have no choice but to switch it to a pot from this year on.

CSI matches the chomp marks and the slimy trail and determined it is from the slug/snail family. I already lost one growth last year to a slug. Apparently, the cyp was so delicious, it just stayed at the crime scene rubbing its belly afterwards. I gently take it out to the concrete car port and gave it a very soothing Mediterranean sea salt bath scrub. :devilwhip:

YES!!!! Sound like wonderful treatment!!

I don't get why they make/sell ceramic snails to put in your gardens? I don't want any snails in my yard...real or decorative!
