Can anyone ID this flowering tree? It blooms every spring and gets very messy with the dropped flowers and cherry like fruits all over the place. Thanks!

Could it be a flowering cherry tree?

That was what I was thinking, but all the cherry trees I have seen do not just have one set of petals like that. The cherry tree at my house is very messy though, so there is one similarity! LOL

I'm also thinking it's a cherry tree but the flowers look a little different. Those trees are beautiful when they bloom but very messy when they are done flowering.

Beautiful tree and it looks almost like a hydrangea tree.

It would help if you could also post a pic when it leafs out. I am interested to see what it will be!

:iagree: it does look more like a flowering crabtree than a flowering cherry tree.

could be a flowering crab.
You're probably right! The fruits are not as large as crabapples though, more like very large cherries.

It could just be variation within the species. I also think it looks like a crabapple.
