Paphgirl June 7th, 2005, 02:44 PM I just love St. Ouen and Hanne Popow, two of my favorite Phrag. hybrids. Very nice photo of a lovely cute St. Ouen!

I think the actual RHS registered name is 'St. Ouen', actually. And it is small. Somewhat strangely (at least to me, but what do I know), it is a popular parent recently, at least for some major phrag growers over here in the U.S. I had one out of a cross (St. Ouen x schlimii) awarded a few months ago. I thought it was too small, but it was very round and very pink.
I registered St. Ouen x schlimii as St. Eligius (with the permission of the breeder, of course). My awarded clone is St. Eligius 'Littlefrog Princess', 75pt HCC/AOS. Of course I was too stupid to take a photo...

My apologies, I took the name from the label and did a Google search. Photo has been corrected. Thanks

Wasn't that important. I'm more concerned with how to pronounce it... I've heard it St. Owen. And St. Wen. And various attempted mangled french attempts. I have no idea what the actual pronounciation is supposed to be. *grin*
I've heard it was named after a town in France. But that doesn't help me any...

Well, if it was named for a town in France, then I would imagine it is pronounced St. Ouen as you would say Oui - so with a tinge of "oo" before the "w" sound. Does that make sense?
Rob, if you registered and had your cross awarded, wouldn't AQ have a photo?

No, I have trouble with french fry or french toast... I certainly can't pronounce Ouen. I can barely spell it...
The award hasn't come through yet. I haven't gotten a bill from the AOS, even. It usually takes about a year for things to actually come out in the AQ. At least for awards at our center.

If at first you don't succeed...:poke:

Aha! Another one for that FAQ! Maybe I'll write the FAQ....no, I don't really know enough, do I. I could write the Q part I guess....
Ok, I'm rambling again. :nocomment:

You write the Q's, I'll be happy to take a stab at the A's (or at least my interpretation of them...). I've been judging and showing for so long I forget what questions I used to have.
TADD June 7th, 2005, 04:33 PM Nice photo however you pronounce it :poke:
Paphraguy June 7th, 2005, 05:16 PM Very nice looking flower, pretty colors and the shape is gorgeous!
dustyatticstuff June 7th, 2005, 06:09 PM "OOOHH-WHEN" is the pronunciation, I think. (C'est possible!)
Like in "Oohhh! When" will I find one of these??? :D I like that pretty pink & yellow color combination going on in the pouch.
