Hi Ron

It would be nice of you to come. Also, Ron and I at 2 pm on Saturday will be doing our presentation on growing cypripediums as a workshop. The show is in West Hartford, and all the details can be found at:

Hope to see you there!

Perfect timing Paul. Ron, did you also have some that you prepared for the show?

So, for pubescens and reginae, what was the # of days you used from warming & flowers?

Good Growing.

Best,
Ross

Hi Ross

I don't think Ron will be entering any cyps. I don't know what happened to his Gisela. Wilford Neptune and my experience with the same reginae in 2003 showed that they go from cold to blooming in 55 - 60 days. Pubescens take less time but more time than I was told. I brought the reginae in 1/31 and the pubescens in 2/19. I was able to speed up the process by putting a bright 26 watt florescent light over them and then keeping them covered (1st with a water bottle, then with a plastic garbage bag) to create a mini green house. It was a pain in the butt.

I brought the plants in this afternoon and everyone was ooohing and ahhing the Kovachii hybrid. I believe that was also entered and not knowing too much about the process I find it rather absurd that a professional orchid grower who does a hundred of these shows a year can enter their plants at the expense of local amateurs who grow things at home. Its like a having a soap box derby for kids and then General Motors shows up with a corvette and wins.

Anyway, I am pleased I was able to get the timing right but I don't think I'll do this again with all the aggrevation and having to compete with professional growers.

Hey, Paul - get that blue ribbon!

I have some plants with withering flowers and with flower buds! Cyp's are difficult to time exactly. Last year, I nailed one and Paul's bloomed the day after the show. Next year I will have pots ready to pull out once per week for two months so one or another will be ready! To bad about my Gisela - 12 inch pot with 9 flower (buds). There would have been competition! At any rate it will look nice next week!
