Hi I'm a new forum member and I have a question. I recently found mealy bugs on my paphs and I sprayed some insecticidal soap to get rid of them. The question is I also have a couple of small noid phrags and I didnt find a single bug on them but all my paph plants had the mealy bugs. Do mealy bugs prefer paphs more so than phrags or my phrags just got lucky?

Take care

Eric

Welcome to the forum Eric! I don't have the answer but that is interesting. Maybe they don't like the taste of phrags.

Mealybugs generally have no preference as to what they want to infest.

Welcome Eric to Slipper Orchid Forum!:welcome:

It seem that there are certain paph that mealy bugs like. Paphs like Parvis and the Cochlopetalums. For phrags, more on the Phrag. besseae and its hybrids.

I agree - mealies like everything just some more than others. You will have to spray several times to get the different growth stages. They also infest the roots so sometimes just seem to magically appear as if from nowhere, actually just coming up from where they are hiding in the medium.
A drench of the pot as well can help.
And welcome from Virginia
