"First Flower (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/flower/)" will be airing on PBS in April 2007, so check your local listing. The show will be about the evolution of flowering plants and will take the viewers to a remote mountain in China. I'm hoping they show orchids :fcrossed: but I really doubt it. They did mention some kind of ancient lily which orchids are very closely related to so, who knows! I'll be looking forward to watching this show! Looks interesting!

Cool! Thanks for the tip....I'm off to look up the local time.

EDIT: Sadly they're not showing it :( They're doing the pledge drive which means replacing their regular broadcasts with schlocky concerts and such that for some odd reason they think will pull in more viewers than the usual, quality programming. Go figure.

There is a picture of the plant hunter with a crypt in the preview. It is only a very short shot but looks as if it will be longer in the program.

Oh cool, their site is finally up and now I'm even more interested in watching the show! Has anyone seen The Orchid Hunter PBS aired about 3 or 4 years ago? I have it recorded on my PC and watch it every now and then. They have a little segment on the kovachii discovery.

Here is a screencap from The Orchid Hunter. While hunting for a new undiscovered orchid species to be named after his grandmother, they stumbled upon an open grassy area and found many Paph wilhelminiaes growing and blooming and it was a such a sight to see! Even the orchid hunter went almost wild when they found them. Here he is showing the camera/audience a Paph wilhelminiae in flower.

:OMG: All gardeners and slipper lovers should definitely watch this show. Dan Hinckley from the show was a guest on Martha today and they showed a short clip of Dan looking for rare plants and lilies in a remote place in China and as he was looking for lilies, suddenly he gets very excited and walks over to a bush and under the bush was a Cypripedium and it was GORGEOUS!!! I'm pretty sure he said it was Cyp tibeticum. Now I can hardly wait to watch this show. Check your local PBS listing! Don't miss it!!!

Did any one see the Spiranthes sinensis at the beginning? The Cyp. tibeticum was awsome!!!! Great Show

Anyone that couldn't see it where they live should order a copy. I am thinking about it myself! I also thought it was cool to see Mark W. Chase. He is my neighbor’s cousin and I know his parents.

I watched and was amused but completely understood his reaction to finding the Cyp near the beginning! Unfortunately we were trying to fashion dinner while it was on (yummy crab cakes!) so I missed bits here and there. Those rebroadcasts are tempting but they're on at kind of inconvenient times :D

Thanks Ralph! The best part of the show was when he found Cyp tibeticum by the roadside. It was really interesting to see fossilized ancient extinct flowering plants that grew millions of years ago and how they evolved.

You can stop by on your way to Florida! We could watch it and have popcorn dressed with olive oil, parmesean cheese and galic salt--just so you can get even with the dentist!

I think it was aliens that brought flowers and orchids to Earth...LOL! They are just so amazing, I feel they really are out of this world!

Budsbud----> (looking to the Heavens for more...LOL!)

That means I would have to fly all the way across the country and that to me is more scarier than seeing the dentist. I know I'm such a chicken! I wish I was an eagle, then maybe I can actually fly with my own wings! :laugh2:
