View Full Version : Question Can this Cyp be saved??

Last fall I purchased a hybrid cyp (Emil). I planted it, covered it with mulch etc. and waited. It came up as expected, but somehow it was apparently frozen and all of the above ground growth is dead.

Have I lost this plant or will it build a new bud for next spring??

Is there anything that I should or shouldn't do??

Thanks

Dwight

Welcome to the slipper orchid forum Dwight! Glad you could join us! If the roots are intact and nice and healthy it may still make new growths but most probably you may need to replace the whole plant.

You are either going to have to check the roots, or wait it out. If the roots are still healthy, there is some chance the plant might return next year, albeit in a very reduced fashion, but I wouldn't bet money on it. It used up a lot of stored energy putting up the shoots that died.

The roots look fine, it's the bud that got hammered.

Lets hope for the best that it comes back next year! In the meantime you can always plant more just in case this one doesn't make it.

Well, then at least there is some small chance. Is anything left of the bud? Better yet, do you have any pictures that show the damage?

Are any of the leaves still alive?
