I have an east/north east exposure in an apartment so no greenhouse. I have a humidifer in my bedroom but the orchids will be in the living room due to it having more light. Would you please tell me which would be the best choice for my extremely limited space for plants? (So I am looking for plants with a lot of OOMPH! (visually)

Phrag Court Jester (always wanted this one) Does it get really huge?
Phrag Urgandiae
Phrag Sorcerers Apprentice
Phrag Scheherezade
Phrag Scarlet OHara
Phrag Memoria Garren Weaver

I am placing my order on Monday and am trying to be disciplined and order 1 Phrag and 1 Paph. (Maybe two Phrags and 2 Paphs ..oh help me, I need a bigger place!) Any advice from more experienced growers is really appreciated. Kindest regards and I love this website!) m

The Phrags you listed (not sure about the last two) are all large plants especially Sorceror's Apprentice and they do get HUGE with very tall spikes! If you have a south facing window with additional artificial lighting, your plants will do much better. North facing windows are just too dim for plants to grow and bloom to their full potential.

I have Court Jester and Love it but it grows VERY lg! I think the only one that stays on the small side from your list is Scarlet O. Don't know of the last one. Whats the cross? I think you can bloom besseae phrag hybrids in a east/north window if they are within 1 foot of the window(watch the temps). They will do much much better with some back up lighting.

I have Phrag Andean Fire and Eric Young, both growing in an east window (within 8" of the window). Both were purchased as large sized seedlings about a year ago and I'm happy to say Andean Fire is spiking. So it seems the besseae will do OK in an east window...I am located much further north than you so my east is about the same as your northeast.

George is right about the Scarlet OHara.
This one has besseae 3 times in the crosses, so it probably is smaller and needs less light.
It is very nice. just look at the picture in OL.

Hien, some besseaes can get unusually larger than normal. My besseae Wings of Fire had a leafspan of 24 inches last year!

I think Scheherezade is smaller than Urgandiae & Sorcerer's Apprentice, but my recollection is that it might be a little more difficult to grow than they are.
