i'm fond of these too...
i got 12 at a trade show recently. have the first set of six potted up and growing nicely. still a few weeks until they bloom... one is this crazy white one with a green center. hopefully it's cool, though i don't know if it'll be as cool as the papilio...
that's not a real amaryllis, is it? it's a hippeastrum like most of the plants people call amaryllis, right?
(if you don't know but you've cut off the spike in the past, did you notice if it was hollow {a hippeastrum} or solid {amaryllis})

Yep its Hippeastrum papilio. Also known as Amaryllis papilio -Butterfly.I have had it for about 5 -6 years and divided side pups many times. They grow like weeds! This one spends the summer outside in full sun. TY

 Lovely bloom!

I haven't grown one before but I've seen those bulb kits before. What do you do after its done blooming? Do they bloom continuously?

Hi
This is a species from Brazil and not a Dutch hybrid African Amaryllis. After blooming the Dutch Amaryllis need a compleate dry rest after the foliage matures. H papillio are VERY easy.Bright light-Full Sun. feed (20-20-20 peters and bone meal a few times a year) and water year round. Mine spike off and on most of the year but bloom most in winter, spring just when you want them. You need one!!!

OMG I want it! Is it cold hardy outside? And more importantly...is it 100 degree weather hardy? Is it a water hog or slightly drought tolerant? I will totally plant these all over my yard if they are as easy as you say!

Hi
Ron i find also that seed are never fertile.I tried selfing several times and have never had seed germinate. I have seen a few crosses with papillio so maybe they are just not self fertile???? Beats me.

I think they are hardy zones 9-10.Very easy houseplants. Ill send you a pup in the spring if you remind me. They grow very fast in promix and full sun.My mother plant is in a 12 inch 3 gallon plastic nursery pot and has 8-10 baby pups growing now. They have lots of roots and cracked a clay pot last summer.
