View Full Version : Question Strange Water On My Phrag Leaves

So yesterday I spent about an hour polishing the leaves of my growing collection of plants - they now look good enough to do your make up in by the way. Last night before I went to bed I just had to have one more look at the mirror shine brightness of my phrags when to my horror I noticed that there was water or some other type of fluid seeping from the edges of my Mont Fallu leaves. I wiped it of and after an hour went to check on them again and to my horror the water had returned. It just looks like very small drops of rain on the edge of the leaf. All of the leaves on my Mont Fallu were weeeping. It is not a deluge but more so looks as if it has misted itself in a few places along the blades.

The droplets are small and they don't move or run down into the crown so I am not too concerned I just wonder why this is.

It is only on my Mont Fallu. None of my other orchids have been affected. I wonder if it is due to Monty being in spike and actively growing. It is starting a new growth and I can see a new root coming and as I said already there are two spikes forming.

That sure is a mystery! Could it be that someone had misted the plant in your absence?

Hello phragmip, that could not be the reason because I live alone. I have heard from somewhere else that it could be a) A good thing. Meaning that it has been well watered and that it is in good health, or b) That it could have happened due to the leaves not being able to breathe due to the olive oil being applied.

So, so far there are a few different 'ideas' of what is causing it but it has stopped now so I am not too concerned however if it does happen again I shall be a bit worried as I don't know why it is doing it but as I said I am not too concerned anymore. As long as my spike's don't blast I will be able to sleep at night. :)

Yes that is true. If the watery substance feels sticky like nectar then that is a good sign that the plant is happy and healthy. I think the mystery has been solved. Yay!

Well it's not honeydew or sticky but I have noticed that my peace lily does this also and that is as healthy as can be. So I'm not concerned anymore. The plant is healthy -I think, so maybe it was just letting me know.:)

I think that is nothing to worry about as long as the plant is growing nicely and healthy. Maybe the plant is just exuding extra moisture.

This seems like the most likely explaination. Thank you Ninja.:)
