View Full Version : A few phrags last night
Littlefrog June 1st, 2005, 01:28 PM Here are a couple phrags that were in bloom when I had the camera out last night. Nothing really spectacular.
1) Phrag. Ecua-Bess (or Olaf Gruss, depending on your mood)

2) Phrag. Paul Eugene Conroy (first bloom...)

Paphraguy June 1st, 2005, 01:33 PM Very nice, I like the EcuaBess!

Me too, pretty shading. :)

I'd better start to appreciate it more, I have a dozen. *grin*
Paphraguy June 1st, 2005, 01:42 PM If you have a dozen and don't like them that much, you can always send Heather and myself each an Ecuabess and we'll gladly take them off your hands!
Paphgirl June 1st, 2005, 01:44 PM I hear you on that, Rob. My tastes have changed a lot since I started a year ago and some of my early purchases I find myself wondering why I have them and pondering what could be done w/ the space that they occupy. Every now and then, one of them gets a look of reproach....

Hey! Speak for yourself there Paphraguy! :poke: I have no room for anymore Phrag hybrids, personally. Though it is pretty.

Trade you for that yellow besseae... :poke:
Actually they are listed on my website, I can't keep everything. Heather, you have plenty of room with that plant spacing you use (see rule 1).
Paphraguy June 1st, 2005, 01:54 PM Nope, my yellow bess is a keeper, I love it and I found 2 new starts this morning. :-dance: I can't wait to see what the flowers will look like this season!

Haha, you mean my multi-storied growing space? There's not much farther *up* I can go, I'm afraid. I don't know, it is really getting pretty dicey in there. I had to clear space for the new besseae this morning, and didn't make much headway.

I was actually thinking that some of us have pots that actually (*GASP*) touch each other... :poke:
I can't see a square inch of my bench in a lot of places. *grin*
I think it is pretty apparent that you need more space, time to build an addition. Or put in a greenhouse. You know you want one...
Paphgirl June 1st, 2005, 02:19 PM Nope, no greenhouse for me. Too many things can go wrong in those things, I'd never get any sleep, worrying.
Me? I want an all weather south facing sun room. And, I'll tell you right now, tho SO may think differently, we're not buying a house w/out one!
Second choice I think would be a dedicated grow room where I could get some HPS lighting and improve my humidity issues.
Right now though, we rent, so I'm stuck w/ what I've got for the time being.

Do they do basements in MA? If you buy a house, get one with a big basement (unfinished). That is even better than a greenhouse, for most people. Make sure you get at least 200A of electrical service... You might want 2x200A. *grin*
Paphgirl June 1st, 2005, 02:30 PM Yeah, we thought about the basement. I wonder the cost of heating it though. Well, it is an option, though, frankly, I really like having my plants close to me, so love that they are in my living room right now. I can appreciate them more frequently.

Heh... If you put enough grow lights in your basement, you will probably need to worry more about cooling it than heating it. Regardless, it is cheaper than heating a greenhouse.
Paphraguy June 1st, 2005, 04:27 PM I have a large basement but I would never use it for my slipper grow area. It is too dark, creepy and dungeony. I just turned a spare room into a slipper grow area with HPS lights and all!
