OK just to start the ball rolling.. If you were given just one paph to grow what would that paph be and why? Of course choosing to grow a paph thats not your favourite could be possible but consider my case...

I have neither successfully bloomed a philippinense nor an anitum. However
Ive been growing philippinense for 2 years now and find they grow well for me. At least with the plants I have they often grow to be large multi growth specimens that I often admire for their healthy growth even if they have not
flowered for me yet.

However posed with the question of my favourite paph. Then it would definetely be my anitum. This plant hasnt been growing much for 3 months but I love the challenge of growing and maybe blooming it someday. Its more attractive to me out of bloom and more exotic
looking in my opinion.

Jeff, I would love to see a photo of your anitum?
What is your growing area like? I find it interesting, being where you are, that your philippinense is being so stubborn.

At the moment, off the top of my head I would have to say my favorite Paph. is sanderianum, (is that trite?) and in my collection of three of them, I think my favorite is my new 'Maki' from Al. I love it's growth habit, it's vigor and it's beautiful wavy foliage. Though, I baby all three of them terribly!

If I had to choose only one Paph, it would have to be sanderianum. Mine is still a seedling but growing steadily and beautifully. I live in cold country Maine and I have no problem growing and blooming my philippinense indoors. They grow wild where you live so you should have no problem growing them and you could even grow them outdoors all year round!

I am probably most captivated by the photos I have seen of anitum.

Easy call for me- bellatulum.

That is just the coolest looking plant on the planet- in or out of flower. All the recent breeding to get even wilder spotting just makes them all the more fun.

For me, it's not about the shape so much. It's the color! I love the dark shades of the Paph. Garnet Fire. I don't think I would ever get tired of looking at it.

I'm not sure what my favorite is, but if I had to grow only one, it would be my philippinense X transvaal. it's not the most beutifull paph, but it's blooming for more then 7 months now on the same spike and still have unopened buds. it also has nice new growths.

mmmm....I'd have to say that micranthum has always captured my heart. Now if I could just get mine to bloom. I'd be interested in trying to collect all the different colours and forms I've seen pictures of.

I've thought long and hard and to be honest, whatever is currently in bloom is my favorite Paph. That said, if I were to own only one Paph, i guess I would choose Paph Norito Hasegawa. It's brilliant yellow color from the armeniacum, combined with the shape and imposing, tall stem of malipoense draw my attention whenever it's in bloom.

Norito and brachys are all good choices. It is a tough choice, even if we were required to only grow one type of paph, we would still find ways to grow different ones.

An excellent anitum with straight arching petal is probably the best multifloral ever. Any really select species is fantastic really any but they are few and far between.

Yes, I don't even know if I am even spelling it correctly. So many of these end in "ianum" or "iamum" or something like that. Must be the Latin naming protocol, which I will have to take a look at.

Oh Yes, I think an insigne, would be another species on the top of the list.

Poor Paphraguy got me when I could not spell haynaldianum - I can't imagine all the incorrect ways I spelled it at that point, but finally got it down and now it seems easy. Feel free to abbreviate - we love that! hay...tig...Leb....SB, LI...

your turn! :D

It can be a contest - figure out what the other is talking about, lol! :D
My fav is still and always will be warscewiczianum...though czerwiakowianum runs a definite close second!

For me, it's definately a tie between Paph. supardii and Paph. stonei. Not sure what it is about these two species, but I looooooooooove them.
