A month ago NJOS received word that RKS Orchids in PA was going out of business. I went there (410 miles RT) to buy plants for the next Society auction, and also came home with 26 complex Paphs (mix of awarded clones & BS seedlings) for my own collection. However, knowing that he will turn off the heat in early December bothered me.

So, when I woke up early on Saturday, I went on a 410 mile rescue mission for whatever might be left. I found a few more bits & pieces for myself, but also a bunch of nice species plants (all BS or NBS), plus a couple of hybrids where the plants just looked too good to leave behind. These plants are now being offered to SOF members first (any leftovers will go on E-Bay). I have group photos of the plants if anyone would like to see before buying. Where I show number code, the 1st number is for bloomed growths, the 2nd for mature unflowered growths and the 3rd for starts.

1 x emersonii Abt. 8" across $20
1 x esquirolei 11" across $12
4 x exul 'Corky' AM/AOS x self 0-1-2 & 0-1-1 $10 ea
1 x 0-1-0 $8
1 x funling (??) 0-2-0, in bud $15 **
4 x gratrixianum 0-2-0, 0-1-2, 0-1-1 & 0-1-0 $10 ea (0-1-0 $8)
2 x henryanum 0-1-1 $15
0-1-0 $12
2 x hirsutissimum 0-1-1, about 10" across $10 ea
4 x insigne 'Sanderae' x self, multi-growth plants $12 ea
2 x insigne 'Sanderea' x self, 2.1/2" pots (but BS) $8 ea
3 x insigne 1-1-2, 0-3-1 & 0-1-5 $10 ea
0-1-2 $8
3 x philippinense 1-0-1 & 0-1-1 $15 ea ) These are
0-1-0 $12 ) 8-10" across
1 x sukhakulii 3-0-5 $10

Hybrids:
1 x Leeanum (insigne x spicerianum), 1-1-1 in bud $15
1 x St Albans miniature red, has a tendency to blast buds, but it is cute $10

** I can find nothing on 'funling', possibly a synonym for something else?
It is not in registered as a hybrid by the RHS either.

Packing/shipping (US mail, priority service):
$8 for one plant, $12 for two, add $1 for each additional.

Orders will be filled in order received. I accept check, money order & Paypal (fairorchids).

Any questions via PM, to fairorchids@earthlink.net or 973-495-4863.

Can I see a photo of the "funling" ? Is the tag hand written? It might just be too messy to decipher. Or can you describe the foliage...mottled? LS?

I believe the correct name is "furling", and it is one of those supposed species names for new jungle collected varieties of hirsutissimum or esquirolei.
These were collected about 20 years ago and didn't appear to be anything but a geographical variant.

Thanks for update. Label is handwritten, so I guess I misread.
Foliage seems more upright/stiff than I recall hirsutissimum to be, but I guess this could be part of the regional variation. Take a look:

I would be interested in the insigne 'Sanderae' and exul 0-1-1. Are they still available?

This plant looked like it had a bud formed, but it was playing the Paph waiting game. The bud has started growing now, so we will get to see it in a couple of months.
