Not all cattleya's will grow down here under shade cloth. The larger BLC's won't do so well as the temp gets a bit low but Slc's generally do very well.

No problems at all with them. They will grow safely down to near freezing.

;-)

P.S. Yes they grow outside under shade cloth all year round.

I wish I had more room for other orchids. I am pressed for space as it is so I won't be buying anymore for a while. I do need more slippers though I just need to sell off some of my catt's.............

i also strugle with the same problem of space my shade house is only two thirds full but when all my seedlings grow they wont all fit

also depending on the price you want i may be able to buy some of those cattleyas but preferably after summer when i might have some more money and things have cooled down a bit.

Good grief that's alot of catts! Do you leave them outside during freezing temps and just cover them?

Bolero

In Australia (or where I live) it doesn't often get down to freezing. There is a solid rain cover I can put on and off but most of them do well close to freezing and grow quite happily.

A lot of the Slc's can take temps near freezing as well.

Although some cope better than others.

The short answer is that I do provide a solid cover on top (but not the sides) and they grow cold.
