Our MVOS display

Well it was a great show if you are a slipper lover, and if you aren't it was still quite good. Orchid Inn and Windy Hill were there so when my besseae got a third I was very happy to have done that well as there were a lot of excellent Phrag species there. Our display got a second and the one that got first also got Best of Show, so again I was quite happy.
I have a few more photos I will add in a few days when I empty the camera. The main one being a Paph. Armeni-White that Orchid Inn got an FCC on.

I didn't buy a lot, but I got a lot I've been wanting for a while.
Oncidium lanceanum (now a Trichocentrum I believe) from CAT Orchids
Bulbophyllum longissimum from Windy Hill
Paph. charlesworthii from New Vision Orchids
Paph. supardii from Windy Hill

Holy Mackerel, Jon! First off, congrats on your win, I think you did great! And a very nice display.

So, forget the Derby - *that's* the reason to visit Kentucky!
So many wonderful slippers you got to see in person. Wow wow wow!

Of course the sand is nice and parishii, but I really like the stonei crosses also. Gosh that stonei dorsal is so outstanding in its' hybrids. I also really liked that little phil. and the topperi.

I figured that the Majestic Tresses was Windy Hill's - I have a younger supardii seedling from Marilyn that is growing very well.

Great growers at that show! Thanks so much for sharing your great photos, Jon!! :joy:

The Majestic Tresses was in the KYOS display. The parishii, Susan Booth, czerwiakowianum, and tigrinum were Marilyn's. Hopefully I got a pic of her display as it was very nice! She got four awards and all of them were CCMs. Sam did his usual baskets and had the sanderianum, PEOY, topperi, and the Armeni-white among other mostly primaries. Not sure if I took a pic of his display or not. They gave quite a few awards, but I was more photo oriented towards the slippers...now I wish I would have taken pics of all the awards and best of classes.

These plants and the photos of them were so beautiful. What fascinates me is how the participants in the shows are able to transport these plants and to exhibit them. It must be a very sensitive and delicate procedure.

Probably a "no brainer," but there has GOT to be so much work involved behind the scenes. Long hours + transportation + facilities + whatever might happen at an exhibit like this.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

P.S.,

Love the Paph. tigrinum! Probably will never be able to afford one in this lifetime. (Unless I buy a little one and grow it from a seedling.)

But your tigrinum photo had an interesting (definitely not Paph) plant in the background. It was white and looked somewhat like a falling star.

Can you advise me as to what this plant is? It is lovely!

That flower is Bulbophyllum echinolabium. They aren't too expensive and grow relatively quick. Don't let the pretty 10" flower fool you, they smell like death warmed over. How Marilyn drove in a van with it for that long I don't know. If you've ever owned a dog and know the smell when it rolls in something you know the exact smell. She had some large seedlings for sale for $15, they would most likely bloom in about two years. I've got a NBS one I am looking forward to seeing bloom here soon.

Here's an albino Paph. philippinense Orchid Inn had for sale that I was seriously considering buying...but I didn't have enough money to buy anything else if I did so I didn't get it.

Here's a very nice Phrag. warscewiczianum one of the societies exhibited.

And lastly, here's the Paph. Armeni-White Orchid Inn got an FCC on. In person it was absolutely HUGE.

I thought I took more photos...and wishing I did. Hope you enjoyed them, and I will have a new batch from the Columbus show next weekend.

Mmm, gorgeous pics again! Will be lovely to see more next week. :joy:

I like the composition in Marilyn's display also - the tig with the two long petaled plants in the background is nicely balanced.

That Armeni White looks very nice indeed!
