tigrinum's sheath stay pretty long in the middle of the blooming growth ... Sometimes it rot in that long period of time ... you just cannot protect it every time you water it ... Just take it easy .... and wait ....

Good luck !

It's been in sheath since early last November - I water extrememly carefully...should I continue to hold out hope?

I don't think tigrinum is that different from hursutisimum in that respect. I've had them initiate sheaths in August that don't result in blooms till May (10 months later).

My hursutisimum is showing new sheaths now, and I have no idea if they'l wait till next year or this fall to bloom.

Rick, Pete and I were *just* comparing the two species earlier this afternoon in the chat room and I wondered the same thing and brought up how long our hirustissimums were in sheath for. My hirs. var. esq. took exactly 5 months to the day to bloom. I'm just about at 6 mons. with the tigrinum sheath and it is still flat as a pancake.

Thanks for the info!

Wow cool! However maybe a tigrinum is not for me. The patience level I have is only so long. If a bud is taking that long, it better do my laundry or something! Good luck with the tigger Heather!

Don't forget malipoense buds, they also take forever to bloom!

Hmm...now, that's a thought...I have laundry I am procrastinating doing right at this moment...maybe I should go threaten my flat little sheaths with their potential new fate! :notlooking:

Is this a first bloom for your tigrinum? If so, be patient...mine blasted in its first 2 years of blooming (and they bud easily and at a young age) by the 3rd year, it bloomed without problem, and every year therafter until its unfortunate demise..(too much dividing and trading...bad bark killed a plant that had been really vigorous but left as a small division ...as general advice to everyone with a paph they love....don't be too enthusiastic in dividing and trading a great plant...save a big enough piece for yourself!) Its true that it takes a long time to develop a bud after sheath forms...it is similar to hirsutissimum in that respect. Take care, Eric

Thanks Eric!
I have a 5 growth plant - I believe this is the first sheath for it. I got it early last fall and spotted a sheath late November.

Don't worry, I have heard too many horror stories about dividing, especially tigs. I have no plans to divide mine. I would prefer it to BLOOM! Patience...patience....

Heather, you're lucky to have your tigrinum in bud. Mine just keeps making more and more growths and no buds.
