Nicely grown and flowered! Paphraguy May 23rd, 2005, 06:50 PM Very nice! This is another species that I like but don't have. :( avery May 23rd, 2005, 10:13 PM Very nice! This is another species that I like but don't have. :( Go and buy the "Harfield Hall" ! That is a nice clone ! If you want a neat albino insigne, you gotta call me !!! :D Ha ha !!! Mang July 30th, 2005, 03:35 PM Don't think it's an insigne! The lateral petals are way too big for an insigne and notice the way the ventral sepal stick to the seed pod - a characteristic of villosum. It most probably is a primary hybird - Nitens?! Stephan July 30th, 2005, 05:25 PM A front-on close-up "might" give us a better idea. I recently posted my "insigne' on the forum - I had my doubts. Which were unfortunately confirmed when my Leeanum opened. The guys at the society concurred although there was as much "discussion" there as here :) I'd say there's a guy out there who is lucky I don't know that they intentionally mislabelled and sold a plant $$*~!@$*. Cheers Stephan Gideon July 31st, 2005, 02:05 AM Nice plant Mahon July 31st, 2005, 03:23 AM ...thinking that it is a true Paph. insigne, very nice plant. The petals are not too wide, and the coloration is almost typical. Am questioning the veining on the petals..... -PM Mang July 31st, 2005, 03:36 PM I'm from Shillong, Meghalaya and have been photographing and seen a lot of P insigne. Have also been hunting for them in the wild - they have been reduced to isolated clumps & surviving in the southern slopes of Megh (Khasi Hills District). I don't claim to be an expert on insigne but I do know that P insigne do not have the width of the lateral petals as depicted in the picture above. We have a small group of paph growers here and it's very difficult to get any paph (species or hybrids). The hunger for more made one of my close friend (Mr.G.Middlecote) cross pollinate the species/hybrids available with him. The clones of Nitens (insigne x villosum) that flowered are very similar to the picture posted & hence my earlier remark. Will post a picture of Nitens as soon as I get it scanned. Mang. Mahon August 1st, 2005, 03:52 PM ...thought it over, the thick red vein could be inherited from P. villosum, and the petals actually do look a little wider. I tried to guesstimate the width on a side view, but they are waived so you cannot see the actual width, I might agree as to a P. insigne x villosum..... am only questioning about how that synsepal is looking on the cross of insigne and villosum..... post pics when you can..... ttyl, -PM Mang August 2nd, 2005, 03:22 PM Finally got Nitens scanned. He believes in growing them outside like they the way they occur in nature! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Bahdeng9/P-insigne.jpg Mang couscous74 August 2nd, 2005, 03:30 PM Mang, that outdoor shot is spectacular. :clap2: Paphgirl August 2nd, 2005, 03:32 PM Wow, fabulous shots, particularly the outdoor one!!
