View Full Version : Paph Praying Isabel
couscous74 May 23rd, 2005, 09:59 AM Here is a pic of the Praying Isabel I bought last weekend. This is the first flower on the inflorescence. The second bud just opened a day ago and the petals haven't twisted yet so I tried to keep it out of the pic for now.
I'll post a pic of all 3 buds when they are all open and a shot of the whole plant as well. [In-laws should be gone by then... ]

Paphraguy May 23rd, 2005, 10:12 AM Very nice! It also looks very much like the wilhelminiae species.
Paphgirl May 23rd, 2005, 10:24 AM Very nice close up of a beautiful hybrid.
Looking forward to seeing the final show!
Park Bear May 23rd, 2005, 11:23 AM wonderful, I like a lot
TADD May 23rd, 2005, 12:01 PM Nicely bought and captured! I need more space and light!

wolfcreekmn May 24th, 2005, 08:28 PM Looks very nice :clap2: :clap2: What makes up this hybrid ? What is the leaf spand? If it is a small one I will have to add it to my list.
couscous74 May 24th, 2005, 10:36 PM Here's a wider picture I snuck in today.

The leaf span on the old previously bloomed growth is about 26" stretched out, but most of it is relatively compact. With the way the leaves curve, it probably doesn't take up more than 20" the long way.
From the top of the medium to the top bud is about 16".
The plant I have is labelled as Lady Isabel x gardineri.
Paphgirl May 25th, 2005, 06:06 AM Nice photo Marcus!
couscous74 May 29th, 2005, 09:56 PM Took this photo at night, so sorry for the shadows. But all three buds are open and the petals all twisted.
TADD, I got this one from Carolina Orchids when they were down here recently.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal or cause for concern?
It started a few days ago at the tip and is slowly moving towards the base of the plant. It looks like the leaf is burned but none of the other leaves have it. The leaf still feels firm and solid.
Also it is on the oldest growth, the one that has previously flowered.

Paphraguy May 29th, 2005, 10:56 PM It looks like the oldest leaf is dying off naturally. Your plant looks very much like the wilheminiae parent species and not a hybrid but I could be wrong.
Picsri May 29th, 2005, 11:15 PM very nice ...
RickL May 30th, 2005, 12:21 AM That is very nice.
Wilhelm on steroids
Paphgirl May 30th, 2005, 06:15 AM You might check for a new start also. I often find when a leaf dies suddenly like that it is because there is a new growth pushing at it.
TADD May 30th, 2005, 08:34 AM These plants came from Pinecrest Orchids in VA. Tom Nasser of Carolina Orchids is a friend of theres, and bought out there business(they wanted out). He got about 2,000 paphs or so! Most of them were hugely overpotted, especially if I haven't gotten to them yet. I know I haven't touched any of the big multiflroals yet. Still working on the seedlings, brachys, etc... I would definitely repot it after it is done blooming. That is a very nice purchase! He has a bunch more of different multis in bloom right now, and I drool when I look at them. I wanted to go down to redland and work it with him, but alas I had a to teach here. That looks to be normal leaf die back to me. Good Luck
couscous74 May 30th, 2005, 12:12 PM Thanks for your input everyone.
Heather, I think you were right on. There is a big (looks almost mature) growth pushing between that leaf and the rest of the growth.
TADD, you're right. The back of the plant label says Pinecrest.
TADD May 30th, 2005, 05:46 PM Cool! Good Luck growing it!

Whenever I have a leaf die off quickly like that, it is now the first thing I check for, and almost ALWAYS, that's the case. One of those cool things I have learned this year.
Gideon June 2nd, 2005, 05:35 AM I like this one a lot, it has just been added to my 'wanted' list
