RickL May 23rd, 2005, 11:34 AM I only have one hybrid, and I'm not real thrilled with how its doing. There is a gal in our society that does pretty good with hers. She keeps them outside in shadier areas during the summer. In TN it can get into the high 80's and low 90's, but the humidity is also high hear in the summer. Compared to cattleyas, the leaves on Zygos are thin and soft. They like to stay wetter and more humid than Cats, and will drop leaves if they get too dry. TADD May 23rd, 2005, 12:03 PM The greenhouse that I volunteer at keeps the zygos and catts inside all year. We only grow mostly vandas and a few other higher light under a shade cloth outside. They get watered usually twice a daty outside. I am sure up there in balmy Mass. there is enough humidity to keep them happier under a tree or something. Anad0n May 23rd, 2005, 01:45 PM I haven't grown them outside yet, but I think they'd like. I have a hybrid and it likes good ventilation, diffuse light, as strong sun burns the leaves, intermediate temps, good humidity and grows rapidly if root system is healthy. My cattleyas like more and stronger light if compared with zygo. http://photos9.flickr.com/12198080_b40af317da_m.jpg Paphgirl May 23rd, 2005, 01:59 PM Pretty Zygo! I like their color combinations. I don't have any but my sister likes them. I gave her one which she left out side in San Francisco in temps too cool for it apparently and it got frostbite. She recently got a new one. dantheman May 23rd, 2005, 02:15 PM My Zygo is a Zygocella. It's a cross between Zygopetalum and Mendoncella. Park Bear May 23rd, 2005, 02:55 PM Anad0n, that is a very pretty plant and it looks very healthy :clap2: Anad0n May 25th, 2005, 03:26 PM Thanx, Park Bear, it's one of my favorities too, regular grower and also fragrant, esp in evenings :) |
