Does anyone have any Cypripedium formosanum they would be willing to sell or trade out. I'm having a difficult time trying to get plants. I have other hardy orchids for exchanges. Thanks.

I don't grow cyps, but some of our crazy cyp growers can probably help you out. :D Tom Velardi October 7th, 2006, 10:33 PM I've got them, but I live in Japan! Vermont Ladyslipper had a few this year, but they sold out before they even listed them I think. Maybe you could get on their waiting list. Another option is to get seedlings via Phytesia. If you're looking to trade to get them, well, good luck! For some reason these remain relatively rare in cultivation in the states and few people sell them. Tom phragfan October 8th, 2006, 11:34 AM Welcome to the forum, Trevor. fundulopanchax October 8th, 2006, 09:40 PM Trevor, I am still building up my collection of blooming size Cyp formosanum but have some nice one year old and two year old seedlings. I you are willing to wait for bloom, these should bloom in 3 - 5 years (yes a long time to wait I know). Usually I do not trade seedlings but since you said you have other hardy orchids, and if you are willing to consider seedlings, drop me a line at ronjonb@aol.com. For blooming size also check with Paul Christian Rare Plants (www.rareplants.com). They are in England so shipping, phytosanitary certificare, and CITES certificate will set you back horrendously but they often have formosanum (I know they have japonicum right now) and they sell nice plants. Best, Ron Burch newbiez8OR October 9th, 2006, 07:58 PM You could try Heronswood Nursery in the Seattle area. THey do mail order but are expensive. I know the have had cyps before as I tried to grow one but failed miserably. Don't know if I over watered or underwatered but a bit too expensive for me to try again for a while. On the other hand I bought some ariseamas from them that are doing quite nicely and look pretty cool. The original owner, who collected a lot of plants from China, sold the place last year but they are still in business as far as I know. |
