Forgot to say that this is a Phrag. Grande with seven growths which are all bunched and touching each other. I like to see my plants standing straight and I think that if I leave this alone they will inevitably start to spray out. Would be grateful for any remarks.
casey March 29th, 2011, 11:58 AM Personally, I would leave it the way it is because it will make a great specimen plant. If you really want to divide the plant then try breaking it in half with at least 3 growths per division. Use a sharp knife if breaking by hand is impossible.
paphman910 March 29th, 2011, 03:11 PM I would not divide it as it could set the plant back and may not produce as many flowers as before.

orchidlover March 29th, 2011, 03:23 PM I agree with with Casey and paphman. The plant has reached full maturity and is now vigorously growing at this stage. I wouldn't split it.
newbie March 29th, 2011, 03:29 PM Nice fat growths and the plant looks so healthy!

Dido March 29th, 2011, 04:05 PM :(:angeldevil:If you want to break it, think on me with the other half of the plant
orchidlover March 29th, 2011, 05:04 PM When it does flower, it will be spectacular with probably more blooms than usual.
Paphy57 March 29th, 2011, 07:09 PM From the pictures, it looks as if not all of the growths have their own roots. I would plant it lower in the medium next repot to encourage new root growth on those growths.
jtrmd March 29th, 2011, 07:31 PM it.Determine where the roots are.Torch shears and cut right done the middle.Maybe a little dusting of cinnamon.Mystery solved!
phragmip March 29th, 2011, 08:33 PM I would also not split it and I can already picture the flowers will be beautiful when it blooms.
Chosen One March 30th, 2011, 09:59 AM Splitting the plant in half will definitely set the plant way back and the plant will take a long time to recover.
Paphraguy March 30th, 2011, 11:47 AM I have divided my Phrag Grande many times and yes it does setback the plant but surprisingly some of the divisions actually grew vigorously without any problem.

Thanks Nick. Decided to take your advise and repot and plant this one deeper. I have another ten of these and they are all as this one ( that's the growths )
Thanks to everyone who replied you have been most helpfull
