Excellent, Stephan! :good: Do post photos when they bloom.
Nynaeve October 27th, 2006, 07:57 AM Awesome Stephen! It will be nice to compare the Schroderae.
And I am happy to report that none of my phrags appear to be dying...
Isis October 27th, 2006, 08:18 AM :woohoo: My first long-petaled Phrag. is also in spike!
The tag says wallisii x longifolium, and as you probably know the caudatum complex is a Taxonomical mess...
So I guess I'll have to wait until it flowers to see if it's a Phragmipedium Paul Eugene Conroy or perhaps Phragmipedium Wössner Supergrande, according to Phragweb anyway... Kews world checklist of plant families says that Phrag. wallisii is a synonym of Phrag. warszewiczianum; "This name is Accepted by:Braem, G.J., Ohlund, S. & Quené, R.-J. (2004). The Real Phragmipedium warszewiczianum. A Clarification of the Phragmipedium caudatum Complex (Phragmipedium section Phragmipedium). Orquideología 23: 117-136."
However if you look at the "accepted by" tab for Phrag. wallisii you find that; This name is Accepted by:Govaerts, R. (2003). World Checklist of Monocotyledons Database in ACCESS: 1-71827. The Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
 I mean not even the checklist is consistent!
I'm still waiting for the Sedenii-type to open that bud up, but it looks like it's not too far away either. ;)
/Cheers I
Paphraguy October 27th, 2006, 08:32 AM Excellent Ida! :welldone: I'll be looking forward to seeing photos of your plant in bloom. :D

Very good Ida! I know what you mean about the long petaled synonyms. I usually see phrag warszewiczianum also referred to as popowii. All I know is that "popowii" is easier to spell and pronounce! I have not seen it interchanged with wallisii, however...very interesting!
Isis October 27th, 2006, 08:58 AM Thanks Peter, I look forward to sharing some photos of slippers as well!
/Cheers I
Isis October 27th, 2006, 09:06 AM Teresa, I do hope it will be a good shaped one! :) This wallisii mess makes me wonder if anyone is checking the DNA - isn't it possible to compare these plants and see if it's one or more varieties  (it can't be that hard to check just these can it?!)?!
popowii too, huh, - well that's definitley easier to spell and probably pronounce as well!
/Cheers I

Paphraguy October 27th, 2006, 11:42 AM Hi Marilyn,
Nice Phrags in bloom! I did a Google search on Charmer x Cardinale and it brought up Teresa's list on GW. :laugh2: So, maybe Teresa can weigh in, Teresa?
Slipperguy October 27th, 2006, 12:37 PM Nice phrags grandma...
Nynaeve October 27th, 2006, 01:39 PM Hi Marilyn,
Nice Phrags in bloom! I did a Google search on Charmer x Cardinale and it brought up Teresa's list on GW. :laugh2: So, maybe Teresa can weigh in, Teresa?
OMG...do I have this phrag? LOL I had to go and look for myself! I seriously need to update that list. Yes I do in fact have Phrag Hanne Popow 'Charmer' x Cardinale 'Noyo' in my collection. It is one I got from Sherwood orchids. Naturally because it is a phrag I have not bloomed it. But it is putting out new growths and is not dying. I am assuming it will look like a little pink fuzzy bloom. Colchine-treated I believe means there was a chemical added to the seeds in flask to make the plants or blooms bigger/better? I don't know the science behind it. Someone else will have to answer that. I know usually blooms that are colchine treated will have a yellowish line on the lateral petals.
Grandma MC October 27th, 2006, 02:30 PM Thanks Teresa
I didn't know it was Hanna Popow. Mine is in bloom so I will take a photo and post it.
