at the beginning of this summer i planted a Plumeria cutting and attempted to grow it. after waiting until the end of the summer it had finally started to produce leaves. However, today i decided to repot and to my great dismay the cutting had never rooted. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Why on earth would the cutting be making leaves if it hasn't even produced roots. does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this thing to root and grow in general!!!!!???

I don't know much about Plumeria but have you dipped it in Rootone before planting the cutting?

i make the cutting, let it sit out a week or two, then pot the sucker up.
it likes a whole lotta light.
if you can give it bottom heat, that helps.
i'm not entirely sure, but light cycle may be important, i.e. needs long days

I grew my plumeria from a cutting. I used a soiless potting mix (I think it was called Sta-Green) and I potted it up in a plastic black nursery pot. If you use a clay pot it will not stay wet enough, but if you keep it too wet it will rot. I watered when the soil looked dry on top and with root stimulator once a week. It really didn't do anything for a whole season. It put out leaves and then I put it in too much sun without enough water and all the leaves fell off. Then it grew more leaves and winter came and I had to move it inside for a few months. It didn't really grow during this time.

This Summer it just went gangbusters with growth and bloomed pretty continuously until the 100+ degree weather came and watering it every day was not enough to keep it wet all day. I really need to pot it in a bigger pot now but There is a red wasp that likes this plant so much it decided to build a nest there, so I will wait until the weather gets cooler and the wasps go dormant. The roots on plumeria are very fine and easy to break off, so be careful when you unpot it. I would just stick it in there and leave it. If it is growing leaves then that is a good sign.

i guess what i'll do is try rooting it in a soilless medium. i did read about this. the rooting hormone has had no effect. i just can't believe after all this time there are no roots put leaves appearing. oh well, i think i've annoyed my mother to the max complaining about this thing!!! ugh. i guess maybe if i put it in a punch of perlite and keep under my lamps it'll grow. ugh maybe in 2007!!!! i think in the future i'll stick to orchids!!!!!!!!
