Are the yellow besseae plants easier to grow than the regular red ones? I have seen quite a few yellow ones offered on ebay. I tried a red one before but it died on me. Thanks for any advice!

I have never tried a yellow one and I heard the yellows ones are much harder to grow than the red ones...I'll let an expert chime in here!

I would definitely not recommend either type of besseae to beginners. They are highlly demanding of clean frest water and perfect conditions.

I agree with Rocco! Not for beginners. For beginners I suggest any besseae hybrids which are much easier plants to grow and more forgiving and ultimately rewarding.

From what I have learned from here and other growers Phrag. Don Wimber is one of the easiest besseae hybrid plants to grow.

If you like long petals then you might like China Dragon.

Another easy growing besseae cross is Phrag Eric Young and some are crossed with the yellow variety.

Eric Young is one of my favorite phrags and I agree very easy to grow and they grow fast! I didn't know they were made with besseae var. flavum. Hmm interesting I have to look for one now. LOL

Phragmipedium Inca Embers are fast growing plants and easy to grow. I too wouldn't recommend the besseae species to beginners.
