:woohoo:
Hi all!
NeoOrchid here, just transplanted from my beautiful mountain home in North Carolina to the (very dry) midwest! Not too bad though, I'm looking forward to the Illinois Orchid Society show at the end of March- (first show ever!)
I'm a newbie orchid lover; I own mostly "orphans", six or so phals, three paphs- my personal favorites of course; a healthy recently acquired cymbidium, an areangis cryptodon and a dendrobium of unknown origin on it's deathbed :(
I joined the slipper orchid forum because I just love these darned orchids! What's with these things anyways? They're like kittens (to me, I can't turn them away I just love them to bits!)
The day I fell in love with slipper orchids was totally by accident. In 2008 I saw a plant that was on the 50% off table at the local (well respected) garden center and the (orchid expert) clerk told me "oh, you don't want that one". Well, I did want that "one" and I took it and she has bloomed every year the past few years and is in bud as I write! I'd like to post a picture to the forum when she blooms and possibly get an identification.
My other two paphs are identified rescues recently acquired online, one is a Prince Edward of York (poor root system and cold damage to leaves) and the second is a Makuli-Curtisii (as labeled) which actually looks healthy.
As my experience with raising orchids grows in relation to watering, feeding, and the different media and potting (mounts, pots, etc. and space!) I will invest into some of the really fantastic species that I have on my wish list...
