My son, Curt is making plans to marry a girl from Ontario. Does that get me any special dispensation? :poke:

Kyle is right about Mad Cow and Bird Flu. I personally believe Mad Cow is in the US as well but probably not reported in many cases.

It probably has entered the food chain because the last incident the Canadian Government took so long to determine CJD that the carcass was nowhere to be found.

Are you sure about that Paphman? CJD is the human equivilant to Mad Cow, and Canada has different guide lines about animal processing and it is unlikely that the meat would get into the food chain, in canada, before the animal is tested.

The US on the other hand, as I understand it, allows the meat to enter prior to testing.

I'm not an expert, but I do follow it.

This is not totally true. Do you actually think they test every cow that is slaughter. I don't think so. They actually take random samples.

Your right, But they do test every suspisous cow. That in combination with new rule to stop the spread (feeding animal part to cows) should halt the disease. The last cow that had it was born before the new regulations came into effect.

I think they test quite a few cows nowadays so that they can maintain an open border. But your are right, not 100%, probably less then 15%.

Speaking of madcow disease and feeding animal parts to cows, I once watched a documentary on cannibals and some of those cannibals showed the same symptoms of mad cow disease and the whole show was just too disturbing.

Well, none of my orchids have ever been found to have Mad Cow Disease, but they still can't cross a border.
