Olaf July 7th, 2006, 07:37 PM Now an interesting variety of Paph. sangii was described as var. ayubianum in the journal of the German Orchid Society (Deutsche Orchideengesellschaft) Die Orchidee

It is really an interesting flower and perhaps also interesting for hybridization

Paphraguy July 7th, 2006, 07:51 PM Very interesting! I like the new form and I like how the petals spread out, very pretty actually. Thanks, Olaf!
Slipperguy July 7th, 2006, 07:56 PM Awesome new variety...how big are the plants? thnx
Bill Zimmerman July 7th, 2006, 08:00 PM The construction of the column, and position and shape of the staminode appear different. Also, the angle of the petals gives the flower more appeal.
A very interesting variety of sangii!
phragfan July 7th, 2006, 08:04 PM I agree -- I'll bet the outstretched petals will make it very desirable for hybridizing.
Paphi July 7th, 2006, 08:10 PM so beautiful.
James July 7th, 2006, 08:23 PM  Very neat! They look kind of scary to me.
Paphraguy July 7th, 2006, 08:25 PM I'm not a big fan of sangii but I wouldn't mind having the new form in my collection!
Greenpaph July 7th, 2006, 09:40 PM Olaf,
Very interesting! Is it possible to be a natural hybrid. Any other species grow in the same area? Hookerae or celebesense?
Thanks

I'm with James on this one...it's a little creepy, but very unique! I like the profile shots.
Tom Velardi July 7th, 2006, 10:50 PM Wow, those petals are really cool! I love it!
Mang July 8th, 2006, 04:19 AM Exciting new variety of sangii!
Thanks Olaf
paphjoint July 8th, 2006, 11:32 AM Olaf,
I see a deformed dorsal and some very saturated colors - Is there only one plant ? - or are we talking several dozen of plants all having the same characteristics ?
paphiogrower July 11th, 2006, 12:38 AM Olaf , Very nice this variety !!! I like more this than another specie, especially the pouch like a venustum I love it !!!
Olaf July 11th, 2006, 12:20 PM No other species nearby.
We had also the idea that it could be a natural hybrid, but on the base of our information we decided to describe it as a variety of sangii.

Natural hybrid or species, I still prefer it to the regular sangii. :D

A friend of mine recently bought a plant labeled sangii ayubanum from a dealer in Germany, and was afraid it could indeed be another thing. He asked me what it could be.
The leaves look very closely like those of venustum or wardii, or an hybrid of them, not at all like those of the ordinary sangii. Does this kind of leaves fit with the original description of sangii ayubianum ? What do you think ?
Thanks in advance

The vendor who is talking about probably Kaj Najda, a con man, avoid from his plants!!! (o-seven-eleven, botanicals-and-more) All of them are fake plant, furthe more he offered such plants, what have never never been exist(papuanum album, wentworthianum album, phrag. vittatum flavum) or offered obviously fake plants(eg. anitum with motteled leaves). Nowadays he offered his plants without photo of offered plant, I can understand, why....
Chun April 16th, 2011, 04:25 PM Thanks so much, dodobaby, for your valuable answer.
