Ok should I even bother? Is everyone just going to say kovachii? ;)

Same rules...money is no object, pretending everything is legal, and you don't have to give anything up. Aw heck let's say whatever you want will also grow and flourish in your conditions no matter what. *chime* (that was my magic wand) :innocent:

I would want a multi growth BS popowii!!!!!

and close second...kovachii

Rumor has it that there is, but it's not been posted yet.

That would be my first choice, also. But I'd sure like to see a kovachii x popowii...

One that I would want that I don't currently have is a large FCC awarded Jason Fischer. I broke down and bought a couple really good, awarded Memoria Dick Clements last year.

My choice is a well grown Phrag. besseae (any color, any variety), with caudatum a close second. I've heard that kovachii flowers can be short-lived, that the colors fade quickly and the petals reflex badly over a short period of time. Does anyone have any direct experience with any of these tendencies to confirm or deny? If kovachii is dominant for these traits, I would not expect much from it's F1 hybrids.

Best,

Tom

My choice is my Jason Fischer, FCC that I already have! It's an amazing flower, and perhaps it will be exceeded by it's progeny but rather than desire something I haven't seen, it will satisfy my eyes every blooming season.
A nice 4N Elizabeth Castle would be nice in a bright dark pink.........

I have also heard kovachii flowers are short lived. I'm not into hybrids but if I had to pick a kovachii hybrid, I would pick kovachii x warsewiczianum, I think it will be a stunning one!

I heard the same thing about kovachii flowers fading in color and getting poor shape after a few days. I was told they only last 10-12 days.

I heard this from Manolo Arias, Alfredo Manrique and the road side vendor in Peru with lots plants.

Alfredo Manrique told me that he thinks the best bet is to cross kovachii with fisherii (to get the shape and flatness) and then back with kovachii (to get the size back).

I personaly wouldn't pay any premium for any of the legal crosses offered from either nursey with legal plants.

Both nurseries selected the biggest plants they could get to. I think some were in spike, but I'm 90% sure none were in flower.

My point is that they chose thier plants without considering the flower quality. The pictures that Peruflora have on thier site are probably taken only days after the flowers opened and arn't fair representation of the quality of hte flowers, or the final color intensity of the flowers.

I think it will take 2 or 3 generations to produce good flowers. The good breeders, like Terry Root, Jerry Fisher, Chuck Acker and yourself (plus lots of others), will have thier work cut out for them.

My choice would also be for a nice besseae or a big branching dalessandroi. Probably the later.
