Hi folks,

I have this plant/large bush growing in my backyard and I have no idea what it is. It is about 10 ft tall and flowers during spring and summer. Flowers are about 2 inches across and are highly fragrant (smells just like Jasmine flowers) . Can anyone ID this plant for me? Thanks!

Wow that is really beautiful! Does it have thorns or make berries?

I'd say they belong to the genus Philadelphus, commonly knowen as Mockorange. Many hybrids exist. Very durable and sometimes somewhat weedy.

Teresa, no berries and no thorns.

Ken, I think you're right about it being a Philadelphus or Mockorange. I did a search and sure enough they look very similiar from the photos and description. Now I know what it is. Thanks, Ken! :D

I had these in my garden at one time and the smell was even stronger at night. I loved to sit on my porch in the early evening and and just be carried away with the fragrance.

Yes, the scent is heavenly and very strong fragrance. I just came back inside at 7.15pm and the fragrance was even stronger than before.
