Well, Daddy has struck again! This time he decided to build me a plant rack for my outside hanging plants (mostly catts, dens, vandas, assorted orchids). Previously I had all my catts hanging on a jasmine covered wall. the jasmine vines made great "hooks" to hang my plants on, and I thought it looked rather nice. But apparently in Daddy's mind those plants didn't belong there.

At least this time he asked if he could build me the plant rack, and I said yes (and a quick prayer). But I was planning on leaving my catts where they were. Oh, well...an excuse to buy more, right? The coolest feature about this rack is that it has a misting system and a timer that automatically comes on 3 times a day for 15 minutes. It will be great when the weather is consistently over 100F.

I did specify that I wanted the plant rack on my back patio, and Daddy misunderstood and put it on my main patio. It was right smack in front of my glider and a little cramped, plus...the rack itsself is pretty ugly upon close inspection with the hose trailing out in the middle of the patio. And not only that, if the sprinklers come on, anyone sitting there gets a bath!

I moved it where I wanted it on the back patio, and I think it will also get the perfect amount of sun here. If it is too much I can add one of Daddy's ugly shade cloths to the top, remember these? (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a93/tdrollo/2006_0619Image0002.jpg)

Actually I really like this rack. Yes it could be more aesthetically pleasing, but it's definitely some of Daddy's better work! Here are a couple of photos. You can see the lack of grass in my yard...oh yeah the whole yard pretty much looks like that. And you can see Daddy's ugly "laundromat" chairs in the background that I have been begging him to take! He keeps saying "no, these good chairs! You can have tea out here!"

It actually looks quite nice I must admit. :D I agree those chairs just don't look right in your backyard. They really stick out like sore thumbs. :laugh2:

I'd say that's a pretty nice rack--orchid rack--you've got there. The chairs really have to go, you've got to convince him to take them. :poke:

Nice rack. Daddy did well this time. If those chairs stack, maybe you could pile them in a corner. Or build them into a plant table...

Don't think I haven't tried! They don't stack, they are really and truly bonafide laundromat chairs from when hubby's parents owned a laundry/dry clean service. They are heavy and attached at the bottom on a metal frame. Not only are they ugly, but the mosquitos love to breed in the standing water that collects on them. Maybe I could drill some holes in the seats with the drill Dady got me...

Seriously, I told Daddy that the next time bulk garbage pickup comes around that the chairs are going out! He said he would come get them, but it looks like I will be finding someone to heave them out to the curb for me. Anyone want some free laundromat chairs? Maybe I should sell them on ebay :poke:

*wondering how much shipping would cost for a set of 4 laundromat chairs* :notlooking:

Nice rack! Maybe you could start your own laundry right there - drink tea, look at orchids, and get misted every once in a while...I'd do my laundry there.

I'm glad everyone thinks I have a nice rack....heheheheh! :p

Just for fun, here's another example of Daddy's handiwork. I told hubby NOT to ask Daddy to do anything electrical or anything that needed to look nice. Well...he made the mistake of telling daddy it is really hot in our bathroom. AS IF our bathroom could get any uglier.

A little history here...we live in an older house built in the 60s. It is nice but has some quirks like no a/c vent in the bathroom and really bad original 1960s wallpaper. We are saving up to have some remodeling done next year (NOT by Daddy!), but Hubby thought this would be a "temporary quick fix" until then. SO hubby mentions that our bathroom is very hot and humid (my phals love it!). And the quick fix is this ceiling fan that really only moves the hot air around.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a93/tdrollo/2006_0619Image0001.jpg

Notice the PVC pipe that is cunningly used to disguise the wire from the ceiling fan directly into our light fixture. I like the way that Daddy turned the PVC pipe with the writing side out so that we could read it. Also notice the bad 1960's wallpaper and the masking tape around the top border. That is from when Daddy painted the bathroom, and you can't remove the masking tape because a layer of wallpaper comes off with it and looks even worse if that is possible. And here is where he drilled a hole into our light fixture and jammed the PVC pipe behind it, causing the entire light fixture to bow outwards slightly:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a93/tdrollo/12006_0619Image0003.jpg

The best part of this whole ordeal is that the ceiling fan is connected to the dimmer switch that turns on our bathroom light fixture. It makes a horrible buzzing sound when you turn it on, only a little less bad when the dimmer is fully on. I called my Dad (versus Daddy who is my father in law). My Dad is an electrician and he told us (after copious laughter) that we should NOT use the ceiling fan because the buzzing means it isn't getting enough electricity and it could burn the motor up.

So here we have this ugly fan in the bathroom that we can't even use!

I think you should write a story about Daddy for the Reader's Digest.
