mdcmiranda June 11th, 2006, 02:23 AM Is it fragrant? I have a leaf cutting of a hoya kerri that my GF bought me at the NY orchid show. =\ It's gonna take forever to grow!

Marco,
It is not fragrant. I too got mine from a small cutting less than 2 years ago! They grow very quickly! Maybe we can exchange cuttings when your kerri gets bigger!
thanks
phragfan June 11th, 2006, 10:04 AM I think Hoya's are only fragrant at night. Did you check then?
And I thought my Hoya was doing well with 15 flower clusters!
Nynaeve June 11th, 2006, 05:58 PM Beautiful plant! I might have to try one if it can take the heat!
Tom Velardi June 11th, 2006, 06:08 PM Beautiful plant grown to perfection! I think Dot's right about the smell.
Greenpaph June 11th, 2006, 06:28 PM Dot and Tom,
I will smell it tonite and see.
Thanks

Teresa,
I grow mine up with the catts. My greenhouse has been up to 92 degrees last summer.

Hey Peter that sounds like a plan! I'd love to exchange cuttings! You'd just have to tell me what to do though. Cause I'd have no idea where how to start. lol
But mines still a little baby. It's gonna take forever. Well not forever but 3 years before it gets to blooming size. At least thats what the vendor whom I bought it from said. It just got acclimated to my room not to long ago. It's finally shooting out new roots. What kind of light do you provide it and what kind of potting medium did you put it in?
Here's my tiny lone leaf hoya kerri :|

Marco,
I put my cutting in a glass vase on the windowsill for a couple of months! When the root system looked good; I potted it in regular potting soil. It bloomed within the year! It is currently about 2 years old. I hang it with my catts in the greenhouse. I do have 73% shade cloth over the greenhouse. In the winter it likes to mildly dry out between waterings. I give it a little quarter strength high phosphorus in February-March.
Greenpaph June 11th, 2006, 06:47 PM Marco,
Your leave cutting looks like the vine variety of hoya. These are a little slower in growing if it is. Did you see the original plant? Hoya Bella is a bush variety.

Peter, I did get to see the plant and it doesn't hang like yours it is vining. I have a long wait :(
phragfan June 11th, 2006, 09:08 PM For vining hoyas, do not cut off the vines. Although that might make the plant more bushy, you'll never get flowers. Also, never break off the flower stub after the flowers drop because that's where new flowers will keep coming.

I just came in from the greenhouse and you are correct!
It has a slight perfume fragrance!
thanks
