Hi y'all

I just got OrchidWiz, and I have been fiddling around for the past week, investigating.

One of the things I find intersting is that a plant like Paph.dianthum, that has such a dramatic flower, has been used a a parent for only 2 registered crosses. The first is X primulinum (Travis Shane Lawless), and the second is X Heeder Fladder (which is in itself godfroyae x primulinum), which is registered as Paph Mark Zerner.

Can anyone tell me why dianthum isn't used more often? (I would think a dianthum x phillipense would be an obvious cross)
Does anyone have pics of these registered crosses??

2 reasons i can think of:

(i) Paph. dianthum has been treated as distinct from Paph. parishii by the Registrar only since 1999. That's not a very long time in hybrid terms.

(ii) Paph. parishii is generally preferred as a parent due to its higher flower count and deeper color.

Orchids Limited has dianthum x sanderianum hybrids for sale, does anyone know if that hybrid has been named?

Sorry Brian, hope I'm not hijacking your thread.

Stephen is correct!

I have a couple of flasks of dianthum x Lady Isabel. A cross I made a couple of years ago. I also have coming some flasks of dianthum x Bengal Lancers and dianthum x Mclaren Park 'San Mateo' AM/AOS. I look forward to them.
