Whats a tetraploid plant? What does it mean when a plant has "3N, 4N" after its name?

I think the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyploidy) does a much better job explaining than I possibly could.

In orchids, 3N and 4N plants tend to be bigger, yet are often slower growing than their normal, 2N counterparts. In addition, 3N plants tend to be infertile (right, guys?).
