My Amorphophallus dunnii is blooming again this year. Last year it may have bloomed for the first time but then it was just above the surface of the medium. This year he's a full 20" tall. My boy is growing up! No carrion scent but more of a chemical/floral combo. Yet there were a couple of flies sniffing around. I think the inside of the spathe is really pretty.

Mark,

That is different! Does the plant have foliage after it flowers?

thanks

Very interesting! Nice foliage in the background there too.

Very Cool!!

Also, what is the largest leaved variegated hosta in the top of the background? Is it a giant Frances Williams, or one of the newer ones like Titanic or Great Expectations?

Peter: Yes, it will get a large umbrella leaf later this summer--I hope. It's very divided and pretty. For some reason I'm remembering one of my Amorphos blooming one year and then not getting the leaf until next. Maybe this one will do that.

Jon: The multi-colored hosta is Great Expectations. I had it in the front garden and it never got beyond two growths. I moved it to the back where there is a little more light and drove some wooden wedges into the crown and it responded nicely. It was planted as a memorial to a friend who died. The smaller hosta under it is Little Sunspot and the smaller, very dense blue one behind and to the right is Blue Cadet.

When I checked on the Amorpho this morning it had shed a big drift of pollen in the bottom of the spathe. I'll be anxious to get home this evening to see if any cool insects have shown up to visit.

Hey Mark,

You've got some impressive stuff at your place. This is a very cool looking aroid, thanks for the shot. I think my hostas are a bit shady too - they grow great but no flowers. Nice garden!
