The smaller type has opened just waiting for the big yellows to open

Russell those are nice flowers. I love the contrast of the yellow against the red against the green. The flowers really do stand out.

Hello

I am surprised how late your yellow ladyslippers are. Mine are almost all gone and yours are just starting to open.

What type of yellow ladyslipper are they? The short ones look like 'Emil' but what are the taller ones. If the short ones are parvi how can they be running ahead of the taller ones?

Just curious!

Thanks and nice photo!

Is it parviflorum var. makasin?

Now I'm thinking it's the European calceolous. It blooms earlier than parvi and sometimes before pubescens.

It is beautiful regardless of its exact name and grown so well. Hats off to you Phrag Guy for this beauty!

My guess would be it is simply a form of the highly variable C. parviflorum, very like v. makasin (which many authorities consider just a form of v. parviflorum! HA!). One possible test is smell; v. makasin is very sweetly scented.

(which many authorities consider just a form of v. parviflorum! HA!).I had to stay true to my advisor!

Thanks everybody. Tom is right about the name. They are fragrant. The others that you see are another yellow. Which are much bigger. I moved them there 6 years ago when I moved. They have really taken off, since I put them there.
