I've been waiting for my Stella d'Oro to open up so I could cross pollenate my Joan Senior. Bugs have already selfed Joan and she has a few seed pods growing...that gave me the idea of making my own hybrid. This is my first attempt at pollenating anything! Finally today my Stella opened and she was all deformed! The color is very orangey for a Stella, and there seems to be a double flower, and the petals are fused with the pollen. Very odd. Maybe it was the hail storm that did it, or the recent temp fluctuations. At any rate, I went ahead and pollenated Joan. I'm hoping for big yellow flowers. If they turn out to be double flowers that would be cool too! If anyone out there has daylily breeding experience, any tips are greatly appreciated. Here are some pics:
